BoardConversations.com is the personal website of Samantha Griffiths. Sam is currently undertaking doctoral research (DBA) at Cranfield University, School of Management.
The research study explores how the ‘entrepreneurial orientation – governance’ dynamic impacts boards. In particular, how boards are preparing themselves for the opportunities and challenges and finding ways to rediscover their entrepreneurial mojo.
Sam has spent many years advising boards in the areas of governance, narrative reporting and investor relations, seeing first hand the dilemmas and tensions involved in driving effective conversations around the board table and beyond.
This website will provide a platform for curating the research journey and provide a repository for research collateral generated on this topic as well as links to contributions to policy development and support to assist board members in fulfilling their responsibilities and realising their board’s potential.
Sam has worked as a consultant for over 25 years, most of that time has been with Sagenius Ltd - a company she founded back in 2005. Prior to going solo, Sam co-founded Catalyst Investor Relations Plc and EquityCulture Ltd. Traditionally, governance has focused on conformance. Such emphasis may inadvertently constrain innovation and risk-taking - activities closely linked with entrepreneurial orientation.
bsession with compliance has the potential to sacrifice long-term value creation. Increasingly, boards are also expected to navigate an expanded view of multi-capital value creation, as well as demonstrating accountability and performance over the longer-term. Often boards neglect setting aside time to upskill and consider how to reconcile a range of tensions and conflicts.
An effective and entrepreneurial board, in part, recognises that governance goes beyond a tick box approach towards compliance. The proposed research sets out to consider the role boards play in encouraging, facilitating and embedding entrepreneurial spirit within the boardroom.
Embracing a willingness to proactively explore, take risks and to develop innovative capacity in order to stimulate value creation in all its many forms distinguishes entrepreneurial boards from those boards that focus predominantly on the control and restraint of senior management teams.
Sam provides advisory services to companies and individual board members looking to improve the effective functioning of their boards, based on her research findings.
